You’re going to need your license number for the website, so go get your license out of your wallet (unless you have your driver’s license memorized).
You will also need to confirm your identity using your Social Security Number. You should have this memorized. If you don’t know it, look for your Social Security card, which should have been sent to you when you received your number.
Step 2. Go to the Website
You should visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website. Near the top of the page, you will see “Driver License & ID Cards.” You should click on this.
Then click on “Driver License Check & ID Tracking System.” This will take you to the page that you need to go to.
Step 3: Enter Your Driver’s License Information
After entering the license number, you will need to retype characters from a picture into the space below. You should then click on “Enter.”
If you are a parent, you can also check your minor teen’s driving record by entering his or her driver’s license number into the website.
Step 4: Verify Your Identity
The website will ask for additional information so that it can confirm your identity. You will be asked to enter the final 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN). If you are checking your child’s record, you will need to enter his or her SSN.
Step 5: Check Ticket Information
Your driver history should appear. You will be able to find out important information about any traffic ticket that you have received. You can also perform a driving school eligibility check, if you want.
Step 6: Decide what to Do About Your Ticket
Now that you have found your tickets, you have an even more important step to take: you need to decide what you want to do about the ticket. Florida gives you three options:
- Pay the ticket fine and accept the points added to your driving record.
- Sign up for a Basic Driver Improvement course. This is a 4-hour course that costs around $20-40. You can take it online and, once completed, the traffic ticket points will not appear. Your insurer also cannot raise your insurance rates. Not everyone can take this option, though, so check whether you are eligible.
- Fight the ticket. You might have received the ticket in error, or you think there is a valid reason why the ticket is illegal. You should talk this over with an attorney. If you win, then you will not have to pay the ticket fine. You also will not receive any points on your record.
